The Rectangle Body Type is the kind of woman who inspired the fashion of the 80's; for this reason, she has surely less problems to choose the clothes that fit to her.
Her body shape is long limbed, regardless of her height; her shoulders and hips are of the same size and her waist is more or less marked, depending on the cases. Usually, she is quite thin and, if her weight increases, it is equally distributed all over the body. What lacks the Rectangle Body Type are curves: her breast is small and her bottom is not so prominent. She is also called “breadstick/tube woman”. However, we have to distinguish the Rectangle Body Type for their constitution from those who lose a lot of weight and seem to be this kind, but would be Pear Shaped Women (for their constitution) or other kinds. Personally, I disagree about it: if a Pear Shaped Woman loses weight, the bones of her hips will always be prominent and she should lose weight in an unnatural way, in order to seem a Rectangle Shaped Woman. I’ve also tried to do this (unsuccessfully), because it is a very strong temptation to “hide” our curves, in order to dress ourselves like the top models do. It’s much harder lo like ourselves for what we are and choose the best clothes for us, but this is our struggle.
Let’s focus on the main problem of the Rectangle Body Shape: the lack of curves. For this reason, it’s very important to choose the look in an accurate way; the Rectangle Body Type can be clashed with ultra feminine look or a romantic look, so if the wants to dress this way, she will have a simple look. The classic styles, sport styles or modern styles are perfect. Do you imagine Blake Lively in a 50es flowered cloth? She will be perfect with shorts and vest or mini dresses.
Lacking the curves, the main trick to adopt for a Rectangle Shaped Woman is to give movement to her silhouette, both with colours and with models. I’ve talked a lot about how to mask the areas of the body considered as encumbered or disproportioned; in this case, they are absent and, therefore, the brightest colours and the patters for any part of the body, except the mincing ones, are welcome. The geometric figures, the macro flower figures are perfect and also the horizontal lines, but not the vertical ones, because they let your body be thinner and longer. Being long limbed and very often very thin, the Rectangle Body Shape should avoid the total black look, above all of the clothes she wears are very simple and lack movement. But let’s have a deeper look on what are the best clothes for her.
The description of the clothes the Rectangle Body Shape should choose, will be easier than expected, because few things don’t fit to her, and the ability is to detect them.
Overcoats: all the overcoats that are too large or too long can make this figure heavier, by producing the “tent” or “ streetlamp” effect. All the short jackets or the three-quarter-length coats are much more indicated, since they give movement to the silhouette, by breaking it.
Dresses: all the clothes, such as tunics, wool dresses, halter neck clothes that don’t emphasizes the waistline are perfect, because they really fit, due to the absence of ample curves. The models with flared skirt are forbidden and it’s convenient to access those without padded shoulders (it depends on your shoulders: if they are particularly developed and thin, they would be in contrast with the ultra feminine neck of the dress). Even the Imperial styles are forbidden, because a thin breast would be further diminished and not adequately emphasized.
Trousers: the only limitations are for those with a high waist that, making the leg thinner, are not good for tall women. Anyway, everything fits: the palazzo pants (not excessive, in order to avoid the “ tent effect) are perfect, those with a low waist, the tapered leg pants, the Capri pants- above all if you are tall and also leggings, rider pants and jodhpur. The last two fit well because they create movement. If your legs are particularly thin, since they create the “breadstick” effect, avoid all the adherent black models, tight at the bottom.
Skirts: The thin shape of the Rectangle Shaped Woman, allow every kind of skirt; those who are very tall should only pay attention to those beyond the ankle, because it emphasizes their thinness and those till the carve, if they are less than 165 cm. Miniskirts are good in both cases, above all for the shorter ones, because they fling them.
T-shirts: I’d like to enhance the use of some items, instead of limiting: long t-shirt over the hips, plain t shirt gathered at the waist or with an elastic, butterfly sleeves t shirts and lots of vests! The vest, not the adherent model but the soft one, with sequins or suede, with fantasies, maybe furry, is really excessive. I’ve wondered about the necessity of all these vests for a long time; then, I understood: they give movement to the silhouette with few curves.
Blouse: Very good item to give movement to the silhouette, possibly with brightest fantasies or ruches or lace. Good also the simple models, even masculine, brightly coloured. Avoid all the long and large models without a belt in the waistline: you could be like a sail, ready to put to sea.
Sweaters: all the long, large models, the cable sweaters, with large woven fabric, with maxi buttons and pockets are perfects. They don’t hug your silhouette and shape your body. Even in this case, the brightest colours and all the kinds of necks are perfect. Stay away from the V necks without a T shirt under it, because they emphasises the shoulders and your breast would been smaller.
Leggings and Stocks: Having beautiful thin legs, the Rectangle Shaped Woman is one of the few women that fits the leggings, regardless of the “decrease effect” of the leg and can use every kind of fantasies. As for nylon tights, thigh highs, leg warmers, everything is allowed; the more is the movement, the best it is. Avoid the dark sticks with lines or vertical texture, in order to avoid the excessive lengthiness and thinness of your leg.
Shoes: the choice of shoes is wide, but with some limitation for the heel. If you are very thin, avoid the very high heeled shoes or it would be like you walk on stilts. Anyway, all the models forbidden to the other kinds of women are allowed, such as ankle straps, low boots, calf length boots and even thigh boots.
